Buddhism began in India, but became more popular in Southeast Asian countries. The founder of Buddhism, Siddhartha Gautama, never claimed to be god, but he came up with a way to live life based on getting rid of desire.
Confucianism developed in China and some would argue it is not a religion. The teachings of Confucius continue to this day to have a profound impact on Chinese society.
Islam began on the Arabian peninsula in the 600s A.D. The founder of the religion was Muhammed who had a series of visions that eventually convinced him god (Allah) was revealing to him a final revelation.
Judaism is the original monotheistic religion among the three major Western religions. The holy book for the Jews is the Torah which is the Old Testament for Christians.
Christianity is the largest religion in the world with over 2 billion adherents. The religion is centered around belief in Jesus Christ who lived a sinless life sacrificing Himself for humanity.
